Temporary closure of Castleton Visitor Centre

Castleton Visitor Centre will be temporarily closed from Monday 26 February for around three weeks for building repairs following recent flood damage.  Blueberry Café will be open as usual, and the adjacent public toilets and car park, run by High Peak Borough Council, will operate as normal.

Winnats Pass closure

Derbyshire County Council have announced that Winnats Pass will be closed for traffic on weekdays between 8 am and 5 pm from 19th February to 1st March. There will also be restrictions on footpath access on the pass while engineers are undertaking inspection of rock faces.  The roads and footpaths will reopen as soon as the work is completed.

Mytham Bridge road closure

Following a recent accident, the main road (A6187) at Mytham Bridge Bamford will be closed during working hours for a week from Monday 25th September until Sunday 1st October. Traffic signal control will remain on until 25th September.  From 25th until 1st October. the road will be closed daily from 7am to 5pm for emergency repairs to be undertaken.  For the duration of the closure, during the evening and night-time the road will be open under traffic signal control. Derbyshire County Council are aware that the road closure is disruptive and will do all they can to complete the works promptly.

Severn Trent announce they will no longer plan for major changes to the Ladybower dams

As part of a national assessment of potential ways to address future water shortages, Severn Trent had been scoping out the possibility of large scale development of the Ladybower, Derwent and Howden reservoir system.  They have now announced that this proposal will not be among those which they are taking to the next stage of potential development.  This decision averts what could have been enormous disruption and loss of invaluable habitats in the national park.  See for more information https://www.cprepdsy.org.uk/news/water-company-puts-damaging-peak-district-reservoir-expansion-plans-on-hold/

Policing update

The Parish Council receives a monthly update from our local police constable, Carl Davies, on any crimes or antisocial behaviour in the parish and on police activity to address these.   In the latest update, he has informed us that going forward he will be supported by a new police community support officer, Ellie Whitehead.   As and when the opportunity arises, please join us in thanking Carl for his efforts on behalf of all of us, and welcome Ellie to her new role.

Traffic controls at Mytham bridge

Further programmed work at Mytham bridge will take place to commence on Monday 17th April 2023 and run until Friday 28th April, with traffic signal control. The signals will be in operation continuously over the dates of the works starting from 09:30 on Monday 17th.   The work entails ground investigation and the drilling of 2 boreholes within the carriageway to ascertain the underlying ground makeup and geology of the immediate area. This information will then feed into the next stage and the design of suitable remedial works.

Parking outside Loxley Hall

Parents of children attending the preschool facility at Loxley Hall have raised with us concerns about the difficulty of crossing School Lane safely.  As well as the blind corner onto School Lane, they are concerned that cars parked immediately outside Loxley Hall further block visibility for both drivers and pedestrians.   We are asking the DCC highways team to visit and to assess what actions they recommend to reduce risks.  While we await any action from DCC, can all locals be considerate here - drive very slowly at the corner of School Lane, and if possible, don't park outside Loxley Hall.

Do you want to join the Parish Council?

There will be local elections taking place on 4th May 2023 which include election of Borough, Town and Parish Councils.  If you would like to participate as a parish councillor in the Hope with Aston Parish Council, please let the Clerk know as soon as possible.  The Clerk can provide a detailed briefing from High Peak Borough Council on how to stand for election.  All candidates need to have completed a formal nomination process and submitted their nomination papers to the election office by 4th April.

Traffic delays at Mytham Bridge

Derbyshire County Council are continuing to assess and plan for works required to stabilise the walls alongside the River Noe as it passes the Hope Valley Garden Centre.   They have notified us that the next stage of this work will involve a temporary reduction of the road by Mytham bridge to one lane for the period from Monday 17  April 2023 to Friday 28 April 2023, and will be undertaken with traffic signal control. The signals will be in operation continuously over the dates of the works.   These road works are still part of the investigative and planning stage of the project.  At a future date there may be further disruption as actual remedial works are undertaken.   We will let you know as soon as there is any further information…
